A working group meeting involving the Novovorontsovka territorial community took place recently via an online format. Participants included representatives from local authorities, municipal institutions, educational facilities, the public, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine. They discussed the current security situation, the community's urgent needs for the coming six months, as well as issues regarding veteran policy and preparations for the winter season.
A key topic of discussion was the deteriorating security and logistics situation in the community. Intensified artillery shelling and UAV attacks have complicated the delivery of humanitarian aid, damaged mobile network towers — disrupting connections between settlements — and caused regular power outages.
Consequently, the meeting highlighted the community's significant need for personal protective equipment, drone detectors, Starlink internet stations, radio communication systems, and charging stations of various capacities for different services and institutions.
Providing fire extinguishers to municipal facilities, administrative buildings, and residents of remote settlements — where fire services cannot respond quickly — remains a pressing issue.
The working group also discussed implementing veteran policy and creating a dedicated space for veterans within the community. The results of joint strategic sessions on veteran policy, held in June of this year, were also presented. Participants discussed the need to establish a community-level coordinating advisory body to ensure sustained support for veterans and their families.
Despite extremely challenging security conditions and staffing shortages, the Novovorontsovka community remains steadfast, coordinating with international partners and seeking solutions to protect its residents' lives.
This grant initiative is being implemented by the Kherson Regional Charitable Foundation Union within the framework of EU4Recovery—a flagship partnership between the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, co-financed by the Government of Sweden.
