The eighth meeting of the Working Group on Public Security and Recovery was held in the Chornobayivka community

The eighth meeting of the Working Group on Public Security and Recovery (WGPSR) was held in the Chornobayivka community in a mixed format.

Representatives of the military administration, village council, village elders, educational institutions, medicine, police, local fire brigade, public organizations, and UNDP Ukraine attended the meeting.

The meeting raised the issue of the security situation, which is deteriorating slightly: Russian drones are already flying into the community, and there is constant shelling.

“Despite the war, the number of calls to the police has decreased; people have become more thoughtful about calling the police,” said the community police officer.

The meeting discussed the progress of current initiatives supported by the UNDP in 2024: the initiative to strengthen the police's work has already been implemented, and the second initiative to equip a sports ground in one of the community's settlements is still in the implementation stage.

During the WGPSR meeting, participants proposed several initiatives to strengthen public safety and social cohesion. Among the ideas discussed:

- expanding the video surveillance system in the community,

- purchasing drone detectors for services,

- arranging a veteran hub,

- meeting the needs of the local fire department,

- arranging youth space and park areas,

- repairing shelters,

- installing fire protection systems in communal facilities,

- introducing barrier-free access to social facilities, etc.

The WGPSR members voted for several initiatives for which they will prepare applications for submission to UNDP for funding.

The meeting also presented the results of a focus group study on the migration attitudes of Kherson region residents who are abroad. Key factors of return and recommendations for the community were discussed. A separate workshop with the participation of communities is planned shortly to develop specific steps for reintegration.

As a reminder, the WGPSR in the communities was created in the summer 2023 by orders of the heads of the military administrations within the framework of the initiative "Kherson region: public safety and recovery in conditions of change", implemented by the "Union" Foundation with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine with the financial support of the Government of Denmark.
