The eighth meeting of the Working Group on Public Security and Recovery was held in the Novovorontsovka community

The eighth meeting of the Working Group on Public Security and Recovery (WGSR) was held in the Novovorontsovka community. Representatives of the military administration, police, educational institutions, village elders, the public, and UNDP attended.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the general state of security in the community, implementing current initiatives, and generating new ideas in public security and social cohesion.

Currently, the community is implementing three initiatives developed by the WGSR and supported by UNDP:

  • installation of a video camera,
  • repair and arrangement of a youth public space,
  • installation of new road signs in settlements.

During the discussion, the working group participants proposed ideas for installing fire alarms in municipal institutions, equipping the community police officer’s office, purchasing drone detectors, night vision cameras and a drone for the police, expanding public alert systems, creating summer sports grounds in settlements, setting up a security class, implementing inclusive projects, etc.

The meeting also presented the interim results of a study of young people from Novovorontsovka, Khreshchenivka, Osokorivka, Lyubimivka, and Petrivka. Young people identified the main problems with employment as a limited number of vacancies, low wages, lack of support from the state, lack of experience, and unwillingness to work in existing conditions. According to those surveyed, the most critical areas of work with young people are employment promotion, leisure organization, psychological assistance, development of volunteering, and patriotic education.

The working group members were also presented with the results of a study on the migration attitudes of Kherson region residents who are abroad.

At the end of the meeting, those present voted on priority initiatives, which will be developed and submitted for funding to the UNDP.

As a reminder the WGPSR in the communities was created in the summer 2023 by orders of the heads of the military administrations within the framework of the initiative "Kherson region: public safety and recovery in conditions of change", implemented by the Union Foundation with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine with the financial support of the Government of Denmark.
