Design Thinking as a Tool for Recovery: Kherson Communities Learn to Think Creatively

On October 22-23, 2025, a two-day training session titled "Creative Approaches to Problem Solving" was held for members of the Working groups on public safety and recovery, representatives of military administrations, local governments, and the State Emergency Service of the Kherson region.

The focus of the training was the design thinking methodology, which is now the leading tool for creating innovative solutions worldwide. The goal of the training was to familiarize participants with an approach to solving complex problems in communities through creative approaches to idea generation.

Over the course of two days, participants mastered the key stages of design thinking, from empathy and problem-focused thinking to idea generation, prototyping, and testing solutions.

During the training, participants observed how, even in conditions of limited resources and high risk, new, non-standard approaches to community development can be implemented.

The training was conducted by the Kherson Regional Charitable Foundation "Union" within the framework of the initiative "Kherson Region: Public Safety and Recovery in Сonditions of Change" with the assistance of UNDP Ukraine and financial support from the Government of Denmark.
