The Stanislav Community: Current Challenges and the Search for Solutions to Ensure the Safety and Well-being of its Residents

A meeting of the Working Group on Public Safety and Recovery was held in the Stanislav community to discuss pressing issues and find ways to address them amid a complex security situation. The meeting brought together local government representatives and partners who are working together to ensure the community’s well-being.

At the beginning of the meeting, attention was drawn to the deteriorating security situation in the community: constant shelling and drone attacks, occurring both day and night, are destroying infrastructure, and residents who remain in the community are being injured.

Working group participants discussed key humanitarian needs:

  • Evacuation and resettlement. The issue of resettling evacuated residents is urgent, as temporary shelters provide only 21 days of housing. Long-term housing solutions are needed.
  • Security measures. Drone detectors are needed to enhance public safety.
  • Financial support. Due to unemployment, low pensions, and rising food and fuel prices, residents need financial assistance.
  • Fire extinguishers. With summer approaching, the risk of fires is increasing, so fire extinguisher stocks must be replenished.
  • Delivering humanitarian aid to the community’s settlements is often complicated by drone attacks and the lack of safe transport routes.
  • A significant portion of the community’s residents (about 1,500 people) are internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in the Mykolaiv region, including a large number of children - support for them is also crucial.

The working group, together with the Union Foundation, discussed the readiness to develop new applications for competitions to address the humanitarian needs of communities in the 0-15 km zone from the contact line, and to seek new partners to support the community. Cooperation from the "I Help" Foundation was also proposed for implementing projects for children.

Despite the challenges, the Stanislav community continues to seek ways to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents, actively collaborating with partners and making the most of available opportunities.
