Life in the de-occupied communities of the Kherson Oblast is still fraught with constant risks. Shelling, drone attacks, fires, and other emergencies can occur at any moment, and due to the security situation, rescue workers or medics are not always able to reach the scene quickly.
That is why the Kherson Regional Charitable Foundation “Union” is launching a new project designed to help residents of the Kherson, Bilozerka, and Stanislav communities be better prepared for crisis situations and act with greater confidence in the first, most critical minutes following dangerous incidents.
A similar program, combining training, practical exercises, and the provision of essential first-response equipment, was already implemented by our Foundation in Kherson last year, and this year we are extending it to two more communities that suffer daily from shelling.
For the project participants – representatives of condominium associations, district councils, and starosta – we will conduct practical training sessions on first aid, fire safety, and safe behavior during drone attacks and shelling. In addition, residents will receive useful information and materials, including step-by-step action plans and first-response kits such as fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, tourniquets, power banks, flashlights, etc.
Over the years, we have worked in the Kherson Oblast and have repeatedly seen that, in difficult moments, it is not the emergency services but neighbors, friends, or passers-by who are the first to come to the rescue. That is precisely why we want people to have more knowledge and practical skills to help them keep their wits about them and act appropriately in critical situations.
Every person who knows how to provide first aid or respond safely to a threat makes their community stronger and more resilient. Sometimes, a few correct actions at the right moment can save a life.
The project is implemented by the Kherson Regional Charitable Foundation “Union” in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) within the Kherson Consortium for Territorial Resource Allocation (ABA), which DRC implements together with ACTED and Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) with the support of the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine (UHF).
