Yesterday, our Foundation, in partnership with the Czech NGO NESEHNUTÍ, held a webinar on “Return migration and key challenges related to the process of returning to (post)conflict areas.”
It brought together experts, NGO representatives, authorities, and active citizens to discuss the prospects for Ukrainians' return from abroad. The speaker was Lucie Matskova, an expert on international migration and Associate Professor of Development and Environmental Studies at Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic).
This is the first webinar on return migration, and we were lucky to find experts who comprehensively study this topic in other countries. We aim to hold similar events to give stakeholders a broader perspective on the complex issue of returning residents to de-occupied communities.
Yesterday, at the webinar, we reviewed the typology of return, the concept of sustainable return, and the issues of economic and social reintegration. Participants learned about the international experience of migrant return, which helps to assess possible challenges and find practical solutions.
