The “Union” Foundation initiated and held a meeting in Kherson in the format of an open dialogue on public safety issues.
Representatives of public and charitable organizations, the police, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kherson region, condominiums, and the Kherson City Military Administration attended the event.
The goal of the meeting was to create a space for open dialogue and joint coordination between NGOs operating in the city and government bodies, the police, and the State Emergency Service, to respond to crises and ensure consistency in actions that are effective. After all, Kherson faces security challenges every day: constant shelling, social tension, and destruction of infrastructure.
During the meeting, residents' current problems were discussed, potential solutions were outlined, and a preliminary response plan for the upcoming month was developed.
The key decision was to establish a working group on public safety - a permanent platform for dialogue and decision-making at the local level.
Similar groups have worked successfully in the Stanislavka, Bilozerka, Chornobaivka, Kochubeivka, Vysokopillia, and Novovorontsovka communities for two years. During this time, dozens of projects have been implemented, ranging from providing fire brigades and medical institutions with the necessary equipment to arranging safe spaces and safety classes, as well as installing fire hydrants and video surveillance systems in communities.
We plan to hold the next meeting in a month in a broader format. Participants will analyze the initial results of joint actions and determine the following steps to enhance public safety.
The meeting was held by the Kherson Regional Charity Foundation "Union" within the program "United by (in)security" within the framework of the Impulse Project implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation and the East Europe Foundation with funding from Norway (Norad) and Sweden (Sida).
